Datapath Solutions - Chassis, Cables & Software

Host Chassis | Expansion Chassis | Accessories | Software

Not all video wall solutions require customized chassis; however there are environments where the standard desktop PC does not possess the power, cooling, or the PCI slot requirement to complete the project. In these instances Datapath has created a few host and expansion chassis for the user that optimize performance and provide the necessary infrastructure to house multiple input and output cards.

Host Chassis

Express9 Backplane

The Datapath Express9 backplane provides nine PCI express slots and can be used as either a host or expansion unit. When combined with our Single Board Computer the Express9 acts as a standalone system providing the user with 9 PCI express slots created on a switch fabric topology.

In other instances the user may already have a video wall controller in place and would like to link the Express9 backplane to their host unit. Using the Datapath S-Link and H-Link cards a user can link their host unit to the Express 9 backplane.

Express9 Features

  • Nine slot PCIe backplane. 8 PCIe4 lane slots plus 1 PCIe8 lane slot
  • All slots implemented as x 16 physical connectors so any width PCIe card can be accommodated
  • 1 x PICMG 1.3 SBC slot
  • Use as a PCIe expansion backplane for a standard PC using the S-Link and H-Link cards
  • Compatible with a standard 4U IPC chassis
  • Support for daisy chaining multiple backplanes
  • PCIe Switch Fabric providing 100 Gb/s peak system bandwidth

Single Board Computer (SBC)

The SBC is designed to allow the Express9 to function as a host chassis providing the user a system capable of housing up to 9 PCI express graphics cards. Listed below are the technical details on the SBC1.

SBC1 Specification

  • Features: Compatible with the Express9 backplane, PICMG1.3 Core Duo/Quad
    Dual Ethernet supported, Dimensions 338mm x 122mm
  • Chipset: Intel Q35 and ICH9DO
  • System Memory: 1GB RAM (2GB optional)
  • I/O Interface: 1 x TPM connector
    • 6 x SATA ports with 300MB/s transfer rate supports RAID 0,1, 5 and 10
    • 2 x RS232 serial ports
    • 4 x USB 2.0 ports

Vision 800

The Vision800 is a high performance video wall controller that provides users with a turnkey hosting solution for their PCI express graphics cards. The Vision 800 utilizes the Express 9 backplane and SBC1, which allows the user to both maximize CPU real estate and take advantage of the Express 9 switch fabric topology. In addition to the Express 9 and SBC1, the Vision 800 features:

  • Redundant 500 watt Power Supplies
  • Windows Operating system
  • DVD/R/W combo drive
  • 2 x 250GB removable SATA HD
  • 2 GB RAM (SBC1)

Expansion Chassis

IPC X16

The IPC-X16 expands the number of available PCI slots from a PC motherboard and is supplied with host PCI express adapter card and 0.75M cable which is used to attach the Express 16 back plane to the PC motherboard.  The Express 16 also contains a switched fabric topology which effectively provides each of the 16 PCI slots its own dedicated PCI bus.  This allows concurrent bus transactions to take place from slot to slot or slot to host without overhead.

IPC-X16 Specification

  • 19" 6U industrial chassis
  • 1350watt Redundant PSU
  • 8 x PCI-X 66Mhz 64bit slots
  • 8 x PCI 66Mhz 32bit slots
  • Dimensions (approx) length 540mm, height 265mm, width 482mm
  • 3 x high flow rate cooling fans
  • 4 x overhead extraction fans

IPC-X13 & IPC-X13s

For systems that require more than seven PCI slots we recommend using the IPC-X13(s) expansion chassis. This is a general purpose chassis which expands the PCI bus of a standard PC which has a spare PCI slot. The IPC-X13(s) is supplied with a PCI plug-in card which is installed into the PC requiring expansion. A special 1M cable is then connected between the PC and the IPC-X13. The IPC-X13 has 13 free PCI slots.

The IPC-X13S provides the same expansion features as the IPC-X13 but with increased airflow for cooling and a larger Redundant PSU. (1350 watt)

IPC-X13 Specification

  • 19" Industrial metal chassis
  • Dimensions (approx) Length 500mm, Height 177mm, Width 482mm
  • 350 + 350watt Redundant PSU
  • 13 free full length PCI slots
  • 2 x dedicated cooling fans for plug-in cards
  • PCI card for expanding system PCI bus
  • 1M expansion cable

IPC-X13S Specification

  • 6U Industrial metal chassis
  • Dimensions (approx) Length 540mm, Height 265mm, Width 482mm
  • 1350 watt Redundant PSU
  • 13 free full length PCI slots
  • 3 x high flow rate cooling fans
  • Separate cooling for PSU
  • PCI card for expanding system PCI bus
  • 1M expansion cable

The following table shows the maximum recommended number of graphics cards for the IPC-X13 and IPC-X13S chassis, allowing for power and cooling requirements:

Vision 800-x

The Vision 800-x is the complimentary expansion chassis that some users will require in order to accommodate larger installations. The Vision 800-x has the same basic configuration as the host Vision800, and it includes the linking kit which consist of the

  • S-Link Card: The S-Link card is a PICMG 1.3 PCIe expansion receiver card installed into the SBC slot located on the Express9 backplane. It is connected to the H-Link card using the Ex-Cable.
  • H-Link Card: The H-Link card is a host link adapter which is installed on the host machines motherboard or an Express9.  It is connected to the S-Link card using the Ex-Cable.
  • Ex-Cable: The Ex-cable is a 0.75M expansion cable used to connect the Express9 back plane to the host machine via the Ex-link and H-link cards.

Wall Control Split Windows - For Security and CCTV Systems

Wall Control now offers the facility to split RGB and DVI capture windows into separately cropped and scaled sub windows.  The cropping and on screen display settings for sub windows can be individually modified and then saved as presets.  Inputs can be split into a maximum of 16 separate sub windows. This is useful for applications where specific areas of a captured input need to be individually displayed and controlled, such as security and medical imaging systems.
